Sunshine Coast Community Dance Network

About the Sunshine Coast Community Dance Network

Since 1994 Kate Perry, Tiina Alinen and many others have offered dance workshops, forums and performance opportunities on the Sunshine Coast through projects such as One Move Fits All, Sundance 98, as well as on going community dance classes. The foundation of the Sunshine Coast Community Dance Network (SCCDN) enabled dance artists on the Sunshine Coast to network, exchange ideas and to offer the community diverse dance experiences.

What Dancers on the Sunshine Coast want

In 2002 research was carried out as part of the 'In Touch' Community Dance Project. When asked:

What professional development opportunities would you like to see made available in the future on the Sunshine Coast?

92% of participants, primarily experienced and emerging choreographers and dance artists, indicated the need for further opportunities to collaborate between dance artists and artists working in other media on the Sunshine Coast.

Ongoing Dance Projects

Today the SCCDN team, coordinated by Kym Stevens and Melissa Lanham, work towards making such opportunities possible. Activities and project are ongoing and diverse in nature. The major annual event is Sunshine Coast Dance Month.
